The Neighborhood

The James Apartments, formerly the historic James Madison Hotel are right in the heart of Downtown Norfolk, steps from the new Arts District, historic Freemason and the Elizabeth River waterfront. The James Apartments are near the Freemason stop and the Monticello stop on Norfolk’s sensational light rail, The Tide.

You’re just a short walk to MacArthur Center mall, which is anchored by major retailers Nordstrom, Dillards, and Williams-Sonoma but you’ll also find that Norfolk has a wonderful community of small, local businesses. Add a bit of sweet scented adorableness to your new home with memorable floral arrangements and take advantage of unique (and shockingly affordable) handmade picture framing from Nest – both located inside Selden Arcade.

You’ll find plenty to eat and drink on Granby and nearby, as well as a hopping music and club scene at Granby Theater, the NorVa (The National’s southern sister) and Hell's Kitchen. If you’re looking for more of an acoustic vibe, you’ll find you have your pick of fantastic choices in any direction. Norfolk is quickly developing a reputation for launching some incredible talent like Kishi Bashi and Last Bison. As for eats, just start walking. You're steps from innovative cuisine at Field Guide, organic goodness at Chartreuse Bistro, or elegant dining at The 219. Your options are as ever changing as your appetite.

Looking to host an impromptu gathering? Most downtown restaurants offer take-out or delivery of everything from gourmet appetizers, main courses, to emergency dinners and desserts.

From baseball to breweries, coffee to clubs; you’ll find plenty to do in your new Norfolk neighborhood home!
